The Pre-Medical Society at UTSA is an organization designed to familiarize, prepare, and inform our members about the astounding field of medicine. As a supportive and instructional organization, we strive to acquaint our members with the close-knit medical world and engage our members in the social, moral and ethical obligations seen in the professional world of medicine. We accomplish this feat through inviting speakers from varying health care professions to speak at our meetings, taking tours to varying medical schools, providing computerized practice MCAT tests, and by offering opportunities to participate in volunteer activities. All officers are always available to aid in educating students on the admissions process for medical school, and can guide them through the obstacles of academia and college life.

The Pre-Medical Society of UTSA had its humble beginnings in the fall of 2008 with only 10 members and meetings held in a small conference room. As of three years ago we moved to an auditorium and had a record attendance of 140 people with a steady membership of 70-80 people for the fall and spring semesters.

Three years ago we were nominated for
‘The Most Outstanding Student Organization’ from the Student Government Association in The University Life Awards. We are also endowed with an arsenal of accolades from the community including The Red Cross, Carter Blood, and The Salvation Army for excellence, service and dedication.

Our Mission is simple...to get YOU into medical school!

The Pre-Medical Society realizes that a pre-med student's first priority in their path to becoming a physician is to maintain a good GPA alongside a good MCAT score. Once the applicant has received the numbers they need to be a competitive applicant, it is time for all of their extracurricular work to shine. The Pre-Medical Society is dedicated to developing well-rounded applicants that have had experience in all other areas of the application such as shadowing, volunteering, jobs, conferences, research opportunities, and much more. Our mission is to produce the strongest applicants for the medical school whose numbers and extracurricular work will shine against their competitors and delineate their dedication to the field of medicine.

Our main theme is "Family". We understand that sometimes students in the pre-med track have frustrations, fears, and doubts about the path they have chosen. The Pre-Medical Society also acts as a support group for these students to share their experiences and struggles together in order to help them push through the challenges and obstacles that may emerge on the path to becoming a physician. We are one big family that takes care of each other, supports each other, and pushes each other to excel in our endeavors.

We realize this is one of the most taxing careers one can pursue--though one of the most rewarding. It takes a great deal of hard work and commitment to excellence to make this dream a reality. We provide the support and networking, that allows students pursuing this goal a serious advantage. Let us help you achieve your dreams as we work together to become the physicians of tomorrow!
